L-Tyrosine is a dietary supplement containing a high dose of L-tyrosine and taurine. The product is intended for people exposed to increased stress on the body, both mental and physical.
Tyrosine is one of the 22 amino acids that make up proteins and is an endogenous compound. Tyrosine is a precursor of important neurotransmitters such as dopamine and norepinephrine, compounds of fundamental importance for the proper functioning of the entire system. Dopamine is a catecholamine and is involved in emotional processes, as well as muscle coordination and hormone synthesis. Noradrenaline secreted in response to stressful stimuli affects the circulatory system (increases heart rate, narrows peripheral vessels, dilates coronary arteries) and the course of energy processes (intensifies glycogenolysis, lipolysis). Tyrosine is also a precursor of melanin – a pigment (dye) found in the dermis and epidermis.
Tyrosine has a stimulating effect, increases alertness and concentration, prevents physical and mental fatigue, supports brain function and increases resistance to stress. In addition, it is used to reduce fat tissue.
Taurine is a sulfur-containing non-protein amino acid with a specific physiological role. It is abundant in animal and human tissues, mainly in skeletal muscles, brain and heart. The human body can synthesize this compound from other amino acids (methionine and cysteine), but some sources suggest that endogenous synthesis may not fully cover the demand for this amino acid. Taurine affects the level of calcium in cells, is responsible for osmoregulation (regulation of the level and concentration of electrolytes and organic acids, water and electrolyte balance), and also acts as a neurotransmitter and neuromodulator. It has an antioxidant effect.
It also takes part in the synthesis of bile acids, so it has an indirect effect on the digestion of food. Taurine supplementation is recommended for physically and mentally active people, especially athletes around training.
